Marika Meoli’s ballet class will train you to become aware of the anatomical possibilities of your body, coordination, and strength. It will also teach you to be conscious of the outside space. This class is designed to help you to explore your body’s natural mechanics and overcome difficulties by believing in your own abilities.
Francesca Imoda’s ballet class promotes the use of immaterial qualities, such as your imagination, awareness, and musicality (as a software for dancers) to guide and facilitate the work of our body (as our hardware). We will use images to help us manage the technical challenges of ballet with a fully engaged and expressive body.
Roshanak Morrowatian’s contemporary dance class focuses on being aware of the body, understanding the character of the different parts of the body, and creating patterns of movement. We will investigate our body’s intrinsic personality and the mechanic dimension of movement. We will also explore these two approaches and create a junction.
Chris De Feyter uses a language for physical movement based on the body’s primary patterns of movement rather than on dance techniques. His movement and training is influenced by his professional career in top-class sport, circus, and dance. You will learn about the influences of martial arts, animal flow, and floor acrobatics.
Joost Vrouenraets and Maité Guérin have spent the past ten years developing a specific partnering technique. During STEP FORWARD!, the focus will be on how puppets have inspired this, as well as their prominent role in the new dance production [N]EMO BODY.
Matt Jackson, sculptor and puppet engineer, will share his knowledge with us. In his class we will experiment with mirroring our body with an animated puppet from an anatomical perspective. The dancers will learn how to activate a mechanical puppet using human body involvement.
Joost Vrouenraets choreographies often focus on controlling your breathing, core, and stamina. His practices also benefit movement techniques and the quality of the performance. The focus of his most recent artistic research has been on the relationship between the body and mind in expressing emotions. In his concept of the Emotional Body, he explores the way dance can interpret and visualize the gap between a real and virtual human existence.
The repertoire classes will include parts of [N]EMO BODY, the new dance pro- duction of GOTRA that will premiere on 7 November 2017 in Bellevue Theater in Amsterdam. Team members Francesca Imoda and Roshanak Morrowatian will share dance phases that have been finalized in the previous weeks of rehearsals. [N]EMO BODY will tour in the Netherlands and Germany in 2017 and 2018.
